Types of Abortions

Amnion provides evidence-based information on medical abortions (the abortion pill) and in clinic abortion procedures.

The Abortion Pill  (at home or self-managed abortions)

How much does an abortion cost? Does an abortion hurt? Is it safe to order abortion pills by mail? We understand that an unexpected pregnancy brings lots of questions. We're here to help you navigate your options without pressure or coercion.

A medication abortion, most frequently called the abortion pill, is two drugs taken in separate doses. The amount of pills required to complete the abortion depends on how far along you are. It is FDA-approved up through 11 weeks after a woman's last menstrual period (LMP). We recommend that you confirm how far along you are with a diagnostic ultrasound before taking abortion pills.

Vacuum aspiration, D&C and D&E Abortion Procedures

An aspiration abortion procedure can be performed up to 13 weeks after a woman's LMP. It is the most common early surgical abortion method and it is an outpatient procedure. If you are in your second trimester or looking for late-term abortion information, contact us to learn more about the different types of surgical abortions, how they are performed, and your legal options in Minnesota.
